... A NETWORK OF MATERIAL AND IMMATERIAL ATTRACTORS TO ENHANCE IDENTITY, TRADITION AND CULTURAL HERITAGE AND TO SUPPORT GROWTH, INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY ...

The expression Nuoro’s Cultural District (Distretto Culturale del Nuorese) hides a stratified and meaningful definition. NUORO refers to the geographical location associated with the district’s places and genius (Nuoro, the capital city, and the several villages of the surrounding area - Bitti, Dorgali, Mamoiada, Oliena, Oniferi, Orani, Orgosolo Orotelli, Orune, Osidda and Sarule - that strengthen its composite facets); CULTURAL refers to the creative human resources to be used as a virtuous input to development and innovation according to the foundation principles set forth on January 28th, 2012; DISTRICT finally refers to the territorial boundary. Culture is the element that binds the single villages and towns together: the variety of skills, knowledge, customs and traditions actually homogeneously expresses the District vocation. The latter was, however, implicitly expressed even in the past, as evidenced by the illustrious personalities who were able to animate Barbagia thanks to their social, political, artistic and literary commitment. The purpose of the District is to continue this process today and in the future, thanks to a fruitful synergy between institutions and cultural places, excellent craftsmanship and exhibition centers, going beyond divisions and local particularism and sharing a common and passionate project for a lively and contemporary district.
