Of very modest birth, shortly motherless, graduated only at thirty-six years old at Art College in Rome, Giovanni Antonio Sulas will be able to overturn a starting status, apparently among the most disadvantaged ones, and to distinguish himself as one of the most eclectic personalities of the artistic 20th century in Nuoro. His main profession as Drawing and Art Education teacher at the city schools was enthusiastically flanked by – until his late ripeness – painting, design, craftsmanship and interior design. His introverted nature – emotionless to official and frivolous recognitions – never prevented him from collaborating and becoming a friend of international artists and experts and to seize the opportunities– with an amazing intuition – that Sardinia offeredto him, through modern means of communication, tourism and new business worlds. In 2011 the namesake foundation was established in Nuoro, committed to remember his personality and – as arranged inside his last will and testament –providing for completely devolve his patrimony to scholarships and research grants for worthy students in the city or province. There's hardly a house in Nuoro, maybe renovated on the "Professor"'s advice, to whose wall one of his typical landscape does not grandstand, or anyway, one of his unmistakable still-life paintings.
