Goffredo Guiso

GoffredoGuiso inherited his passion and his trade secrets from his father Sebastiano, the first professional photographer in Nuoro since 1909 – their headquarter has been the memorable photo studio around the corner at Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II for nearly a century.Just like his father, who has been able – during the first half of the 20th century – to emancipate from a strictly amateur dimension that art – made possible by the new medium–, he would have left a permanent mark too, with an unprecedented styled portraiture – something contemporary for all intents and purposes – sensitive to mass communication suggestions. At the beginning as an apprentice during the 40's and from 1954 on as the one and only owner of the business, together with his wife AndreinaRigo. This son – coming from an artistic family – eternalized generations of Nuoro (and not only) inhabitantsshowing his talent able to turn the naturalness of mass and next door faces into dramatic and polished portraits, often worthy of Telefoni Bianchi's old films and of the Hollywoodmovie gender system. His glimpse was absolutely harmonious and syntonous towards a still in progressSardinia and in the making, apparently far from a past still burdened by all those identity claims that, at the beginning of the 20th century, had passed throughout images – on canvas and on film –.In 2005, a selection of seventy portraits has been exhibited in Nuoro during the "Mastros in SantuPredu" event, upon application fromAssociazioneCulturaleTracas.
