Leopoldo Carta

Leopoldo Carta

Author of short stories, theatrical texts and the wordbook Ghismonda, writer and journalist, Leopoldo Carta is an eclectic personality among the group of Sardinian intellectuals operating between the 18th and the 19th century. A sketchy vein crosses all his prose, both inside his short stories with a regional setting and his more bourgeois dramas or among his articles for magazines and newspapers. Among these, in particular, his remarkable contribution to "Il Secolo XX" titled L'AtenedellaSardegna (June, 6th, 1910) a short prose that still strikes for its emotional and advertising (so to speak) transfiguration of the Barbagia county seat: maybe a more naive version but likewise heartfelt of that affirmation and redemption desire that Sardinia and his well-read élite expressed throughout literature and art during the Belle Époque.
