The Library "Sebastiano Satta" in Nuoro - consisting of three offices, two of which are located in the Square Piazza Asproni (Headquarters and the Sezione Sardegna) and one in the Boulevard Viale Repubblica (Biblioteca rionale “Monte Gurtei”) - is one of the members of the  "Sebastiano Satta" Consortium for Public reading. It was originally founded by the Provincial Government and the Municipality of Nuoro by order of the Prefect on December, 28th, 1945, under the name of "Sebastiano Satta library Consortium". The original Statute, composition and name were changed in 1980 though. Initially, the members of the Consortium were the Province and the Municipality of Nuoro and the Mountain Communities nr. 9 (Nuoro area) and nr. 10 (Baronia area). At that time, the Mountain Communities were included following the concomitant creation of the Territorial Library System of Nuoro and Baronia, whose members are 27 Municipalities of the area of the two former Mountain Communities. The cataloging and management activities of Nuoro's Urban Library System are performed by the library staff in cooperation with the Nuoro's Cooperativa Servizi Bibliotecari within a specific project of the Regione Autonoma della Sardegna to develop centralized cataloging and the Urban Library System.

The Consortium's public reading services include bibliographic and community information; loans and consultation of materials; reference; children’s library service; periodicals section; multimedia services; Sardinia section; digitalization; important historical and artistic documents.

The Consortium's target doesn't only include the dissemination of culture, but also the creation of relationships of exchange and cooperation with other national and non-national libraries, and of technical relations with regional, national and international centers; the protection of the local cultural heritage (by collecting different types of documents, even with the support of other similar institutions); the promotion of spontaneous debating, study and research contests; the promotion of services and reading; and the support of educational activities.

It was no coincidence that the founders named the library after Sebastiano Satta: the main mission of the Consortium is actually to be the hub and the active promoter of the memory and of the works of the poet and jurist from Nuoro, mainly through the varied collection of books, publications, documents and objects that belonged or are ascribable to Satta and that, thanks to his heirs, are included in the Consortium collections. The modernity of the "Poet of Sardinia" and the need to continue to spread the study and the knowledge of his works through the typical instruments of contemporary digital culture were highlighted on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of his death (2014). The Project "Biblioteca Digitale Sebastiano Satta" actually aims at spreading the study of the artist’s works through digital (born digital and digitalized) cultural resources, given the importance of this figure and the need for research, dissemination and contemporary communication.
